I’ll be covering the general requirements, cost, and timeline to becoming a real estate agent in California. It’s a fairly easy process as long as you have the patience and money to get started.

In summary, you must:
Be 18 years of age
Be a CA resident (if not, that’s ok there is a separate application)
Be honest and truthful about criminal background (if any)
Complete 3 course requirement (Fundamentals, Practice, and an elective course)

Projected Cost:
$350 – Course at a Brokerage
$245 – Licensing/Examination Fees
$40 – Fingerprints
$60 – Exam Registration
$25 – Supplemental Study Material
$250 – Broker Initiation Fees
$630 – MLS and Realtor Fees
$1600 – Projected Total (to begin practicing as an agent)

Projected Timeline:
6 months +/- 2 months, dependent on how fast paperwork gets processed and submitted.
